My Sin
© 2023 Elizabeth Long
My sin glitters and it glistens,
Poisoned dagger out of sight
Whispered promises of pleasure
Saying this time wrong is right
So I linger and I taste it
Then the dagger plunges deep
Pouring guilt and shame and sadness
From the wound the poison seeps
My sin causes those to suffer
Who need tenderness from me
Whispered pleasures now shown worthless
Fleeting joy with heavy fee
Miserable and helpless
Dirty by my own design
Once again I cry for rescue
Pleading cleansing from the Vine
See my Savior standing ready,
He who always pleads for me,
Tenderly he cleanses, covers
With His blood spilt on the tree
Oh my Savior, lead and guide me
Help me see with wisdom’s eyes
Help me hate the sin that glistens
Drawing me with sneaky lies
Thank you that you said you’d keep me,
Carry me to Heaven’s gate.
As I struggle, hoping, trusting
Soon will come the sinless state
